If you want a pop of color in the garden this season, plant these stunning plants for fall. Not only do they have attractive flowers, their foliage provide texture and color as well.

1. Kangaroo Paw(Anigozanthos)

A native to Australia, this drought tolerant low maintenance plant has elegant tall flowers.  Blooms show up in spring, summer and fall. Plant in full sun on sandy, well-drained soil.  It will grow 1-8 feet tall and 1-4 feet wide. Zone 10-11 

2. Hibiscus “Haight Asbury”

This easy care shrub has maple leaf shape and flowers in a rainbow of colors.  What about that burgundy leaf color? Simply stunning! Plant in full sun with rich well-draining soil, water well.  Did I tell you it’s drought tolerant, deer resistant, and heat tolerant too?  Grows to 18″-36″ inches tall and 18″-24″ wide.  Zone 9-11

3. Mums (Chrysanthemum)

Mums are the signature flower of autumn.  These beauties grow from 1-4 feet tall. Flowers come in many colors and wide range of forms in late summer to fall.  Plant in full sun, on moist and well-drained soil. Excellent for containers.  Zone 4-5

4. Heuchera (Coralbells)

Red or burgundy mounding leaves and  bell-shaped flowers are so attractive for fall. Flowers come in late spring through summer. Plant in full sun or partial shade on moist soil. Zone 3   

5, Lantana “Dallas Red”

Rich orange-red blooms with yellow accents fill this low hedge shrub. It is excellent for attracting butterflies, heat tolerant, and drought resistant.  Plant in full sun and it will bloom from spring through summer.  Zone 9-11

6. Lion’s Tail (Leonotis Leonurus)

This drought tolerant plant attracts hummingbirds.  The leaves are aromatic, and bears tall spikes of velvety, bright orange tubular flowers. Use it in beds, borders and containers.  Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. It will grow up to 5 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide. Zone 8-11

7. New Zealand Flax (Phormium) 

Choose “Evening Glow” or ” Amazing Red” for an amazing purple/burgundy foliage. This ornamental grass is low maintenance and blooms in summer through fall.  flowers are red or yellow.  It also attracts birds, good for containers, deer resistant, drought tolerant and excellent for slopes. Plant in full sun and it will grow 3-8 feet tall, 1-3 feet wide.  Zone 9-11

8. Purple Fountain Grass (Pennisetum Setaceum) “Rubrum”

This drought tolerant ornamental grass does not reseed, grows 2-4 fest tall and 2-3 feet wide. The purple/maroonish blades goes with airy red plumes. Plant in full sun and cut back in late winter to 4 inches above the ground. Zone 8-11

9. Begonia

Wax begonias have red or green round foliage with orange or pink flowers.  Plant outdoors as an annual in part sun, part shade in rich well-drained soil. Provide regular watering and plenty of fertilizer. Grows from 6 inches to 3 feet tall. Zone 7-11

10. Croton (Codiaeum)

Although crotons are popular as a houseplant, if you live in Zones 10-12, it can be planted outdoors. Its glossy leaves come in a rainbow of colors, as well as shapes. Plant in well-drained soil, fertilize and water regularly.
